Dog's Day Out | Icarus Explores RVA Part 1: VMFA Sculpture Garden

Icarus and my first photographic adventure together was supposed to be a spontaneous trip to Cary Town...but I got a little turned around, and so to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts we went. I was a little nervous about taking him out to the city (not only because of my crazy-poor navigational skills), but it turned out to be a stress-free, relaxing little adventure. And I got some great shots as well!

We walked down the side streets surrounding the museum, and explored a few other buildings. Then, we made our way to the sculpture garden. Icarus greeted every person that we passed (whether they liked it or not), and was loving all of the extra attention. He was curious about all of the sculptures and inspected each one (I like to think he was appreciating the art, but I'm sure he was just trying to pick the best place to go to the bathroom). He looked at the waterfall, went up the stairs, and for a (very brief) second looked like he might try it out as a wading pool...Thankfully, he decided against it.

Then he walked up to the pond, and stopped to (literally) smell the flowers. When he tried to get a little closer, he stepped on grass that was bent over what he thought was solid ground and fell into the water. Just his paws, and his dignity, got a little wet, but he gave everyone eating on the deck a good laugh. Sadly, it's a mistake I can relate to. He's a mess, just like the rest of us.
